Study in Orléans, France

Students at Saint Louis University School of Law have the opportunity to study law for one semester with the Faculte de Droit d’Economie et de Gestion at Orléans in France. This study abroad program is the result of a cooperative agreement between the School of Law and Université d'Orléans. Candidates who successfully complete courses at Université d'Orléans receive credit toward their J.D. degrees from the School of Law. The program is an exceptional opportunity to experience French culture while working toward a law degree.

The Faculte de Droit d’Economie et de Gestion at Orléans includes about 45 full-time faculty whose areas of expertise span the full range of substantive topics in French law and European Union law. Classes at Université d'Orléans are taught entirely in French; therefore, students wishing to study there must speak, read and write French fluently. Coordinated through the Center for International and Comparative Law, this program is open only to students and recent graduates of Saint Louis University School of Law.

The City of Orléans, located on the Loire River about 45 minutes south of Paris by train, is a charming and historic city—the birth place of Joan of Arc. The beautiful Loire Valley is known for its chateaux and Napoleon's famous hunting grounds. Today, Orléans is the capital of Region Centre and a modern city with a population of 220,000.

Recent graduates of the School of Law may also have the chance to study in Orléans. Those who complete a prescribed program of thirty (30) credit hours at the Université d'Orléans may become eligible to sit for the French bar examination upon completion of an apprenticeship in France. This is an unusual and highly rewarding opportunity to become qualified to practice law in a second country.
