ALPHA SIGMA NU Alpha Sigma Nu is the national honor society of the Jesuit colleges and universities in the United States. The society was founded in 1915 at Marquette University to honor a select number of students on the basis of scholarship, loyalty and service. Alpha Sigma Nu merged with Gamma Pi Epsilon (the Jesuit honor society for women) in 1973 and now has active chapters on all 30 Jesuit campuses and Theologates in the United States and at Sogang University in Seoul, Korea, initiating some 1,500 new members each year. Alpha Sigma Nu is unique among honor societies in that it seeks to identify the most promising students of the Jesuit schools, students who demonstrate an intelligent appreciation of and commitment to the ideals of Jesuit education - intellectual, social, moral and religious. Selection to Alpha Sigma Nu is one of the highest honors that can be given on a Jesuit campus. Upper division students are recommended by the Dean's Office each Fall, for induction into the Honor Society in the late Spring.
