Dual Degree Programs

The Center for Health Law Studies offers the Certificate in Health Law to students pursuing a J.D. In addition, various options are available in cooperation with the Saint Louis University School of Public Health and the Saint Louis University Center for Health Care Ethics. Students must complete two semesters at the School of Law before beginning dual degree programs. The dual degree programs are designed to allow students to obtain two degrees in significantly less time (4-5 years depending upon the degree sought) than if the degrees were obtained separately.

Programs in Cooperation with the School of Public Health
Dual degree programs in cooperation with the School of Public Health allow highly motivated students the opportunity to gain a unique perspective by combining the field of law with studies in relevant disciplines such as health administration, health policy and public health. The School of Public Health is home to one of the most well respected programs in health management and policy in the country. Currently, students may pursue the following dual degrees through the School of Public Health.

• Juris Doctor/Master of Health Administration (J.D./M.H.A.)
• Juris Doctor/Master in Public Health in Health Policy (J.D./M.P.H.-Health Policy)
• Juris Doctor/Master in Public Health (J.D./M.P.H.)

Graduates of the dual degree programs have diverse employment opportunities and often serve in influential positions in:

• Health care systems
• Non-profit institutions
• Large health law firms
• Health policy organizations
• Federal and state regulatory agencies
• Pharmaceutical, device and biotechnology corporations

Programs in Cooperation with the Center for Health Care Ethics
The Center for Health Care Ethics offers an interdisciplinary approach to the study of bioethics. Faculty members hold terminal degrees in law, medicine, philosophy, psychology, theology, health care ethics, public health, and research methodology. Health care ethics has become its own field, but requires multidisciplinary expertise. Law students have the opportunity to pursue the following options within the Center for Health Law Studies that may lead to employment in academic positions, clinical ethics, in house counsel or other positions of prominence in health care systems.

• The Dual Degree of Juris Doctor/Ph.D. in Health Care Ethics (J.D./Ph.D.)
• Juris Doctor/Certificate in Health Care Ethics
