SBA Meeting MINUTES
November 26, 2007

President: Annie Hendrickson
Vice-President: Sean Murphy
Treasurer: Paul Woody
Secretary: Erin Doyle
ABA Representative: Lauren Bissel

  • Welcome - Annie opened the meeting by congratulating SLU’s National Moot Court Team. Paul Woody, Molly Batsch, and Kristen Ratcliff won the Regional Competition in Topeka, KS, and will represent SLU Law in the National Moot Court Finals in New York City in January. Molly Batsch received the award for the Top Oralist.
  • Deans’ Lunch Report – Annie reported that the Deans were receptive of the Library Survey and met shortly afterwards to discuss how the Administration could respond to it. She noted that vending machines cannot be placed on the third floor due to logistical and voltage complications. The smoking policy was discussed, and the idea was brought up to place a bike-rack by the lower Lindell Doors to discourage smoking.
  • Exam Software Deadline– Annie reminded students taking laptop exams to download their exam software by Friday, Nov. 30. Students must take a practice exam while at the Law School.
  • Jive & Wail Finals Party- Monday, Dec. 17- Sean talked about the End of Finals Party. The party is on Monday, and not on Wednesday, to accommodate the majority of students before they leave for Christmas. SBA will provide appetizers at 7 pm. Sean encouraged students not to pre-game, but to arrive at 7 pm to enjoy the drink specials,
  • Barrister’s Ball Update- Erin Doyle gave an update on Barrister’s Ball. Volunteers are needed to stuff mailboxes on Tuesday, Nov. 27, and to staff the table in January. Tickets will be on sale for Barrister’s Ball from Jan. 14 -18, in the Atrium from 9 am-6 pm.
  • Fundraising Report- Erin Brooks said there was a delay on the long sleeve shirt and fleeces. There are a lot of extra sweat pants for sale at $20 each. Emily gave a huge thanks to everyone that helped bag all of the pre-order sales and hand-out the information.
  • SGA Senator Report- Lisa reported that the no-smoking movement is campus wide and is continuing on. This movement is being pushed by students on campus, but a resolution has not been reached. Lisa and Tyson hope to have a library policy proposal by the end of the semester.
  • SBA Vice-President Election Held– The SBA Reps conducted an election for Sean’s replacement as Vice-President. Sean explained the duties of the position of vice-president. He will be back to help plan a finals party before graduation.  The vice-president will have to run elections for the executive board, 2L & 3L elections, and the honor council. The vice-president position involves planning the social events. It requires that you be the first person to show up to the event. Vice-president also must attend the weekly executive board meeting. Rob Parker was nominated for the position and unanimously voted into the office. Congratulations, Rob!
  • Library Survey Results – Lauren presented a power point presentation with the Library Survey Results. A majority of respondents wanted the hours to be extended on Saturday, for later in the evening. A majority of respondents requested access to the computer lab during extended hours.  Lauren announced that the Executive Board gave the unedited comments to the Deans.
  • Annie concluded the meeting by thanking the Reps for all the hard work they did this semester.
