SBA Social Activities
Hey, we understand that your trash is overflowing and your bank account isn’t. A big part of SBA is squaring the social life with the student life. These big events on the calendar have become unfailing good times, sure to ease your white-knuckle grip on the library table.
Ask: If law school is so hard to get through, how come there are so many lawyers?
And then come out and join us.
FALL

Softball
The words “institution” and “tradition” come to mind without risking hyperbole. SLU’s burgeoning league stands as the quintessence of our law school’s friendly culture. In 2008, 26 teams – around 400 people - play in the park every Friday. Bring your beers, balls, and bats, and leave the week behind. Regular season play finishes on October 10 with a party at the Great Grizzly Bear in Soulard, 6 p.m.
Family Day/Trivia Night
SBA co-sponsors a Trivia night with School of Law alumni at Busch Student Center. Family Day allows students to bring their family members, spouses and significant others to school and participate in a mock law school class taught by Dean Lewis. Trivia Night is September 26, and $15 gets you in the game and open food/bar.
Watch and Learn: The 3rd Presidential Debate
We’ll be screening and analyzing, with help from speakers, the 3rd Presidential Debate, which is Wednesday, October 15. Come join SBA, PILG, Federalists, and ACS for a 7pm happy hour at the Moolah before the 8pm debate. Watch McCain and Obama live on the big screen, and stay as a speaker panel separates the wheat from the chaff.
CWE Pubcrawl
Fall Break begins October 17th – at 6 p.m., when Wash U Med School joins up for a Euclid Avenue crawl. Costumes are traditionally encouraged; this fall’s theme is – what else? – Politicrawl, and the stroll starts at Tom’s.
Oktoberfest Winery Trip
The Fall Break fun continues. Get on the bus to Hermann, MO, for their annual Oktoberfest. We leave at 9 a.m., Saturday, October 18th.
Med Mal Mixer
Lawyers and doctors: paired? Oh my! The schools mix it up this semester on Thursday, Nov. 13th.
Turkey Bowl
Wash U Law and SLU Law keep it friendly for a couple hours at Laclede’s Bar & Grill, but all bets are off when the teams take the football field. Sign up for the team (mmilton2@slu.edu) or just come for the mixer Saturday night, Nov. 15th.
After-Finals Jam
Take your weary mind to the Schlafly Tap Room on Tuesday, December 16 for post-finals relief. Two bands will play to the exuberant crowd.
SPRING
Barrister's Ball
A classic evening of drinks, dinner, and dancing at the Crowne Plaza. SBA’s signature tradition will feature a coursed dinner, six five-hour open bars, and, of course, a live band. Barrister’s grows with every year, with an expected 800 people to attend this January 24. Make sure you’re one of them.
Hockey Night
Last year’s Blues game was such a hit, we doubled down for 2009: 2 buses and 120 tickets, which go on sale immediately after Christmas Break. Humphreys hosts the pre-game again. Happy hour starts at 5 p.m. on Saturday, February 7th, before the 7:30 game against the Colorado Avalanche.
Date Auction
Get your Valentine on Friday the 13th (Feb.). SBA, Women’s Law, and the med schools are auctioning off their finest, and all for charity.
50 Days Party
When third-year students are 50 days from graduation, the jubilance flows freely. SBA gets the tab on Thursday, March 26.
Potbelly Games
Be it Trivia or the skill competition, Potbelly is always a blast. We expect the spectacle to return once again this spring. Look for it in March.
End of the Year Party
Always big. Cardinals games, Fairmount Race Track, and party busing spot-to-spot have each happened in the past. When the year’s rigors are over, it doesn’t really matter where the event is. Life is just good.
Atrium Socials
Throughout the semesters, SBA hosts events in the Atrium with food, soda and beer. Sometimes the Pointer’s Pizza Challenge makes a showing, other times it’s chili and food cook-offs.
